My name is Mr. Palmer and I am very excited about having your child in my 6th grade class this year at Horizon. Ms. Brumm, Ms. Johnson and I will be teaching your child. I will be teaching Science, Writing, and Social Studies. I feel fortunate to have your child in my class this year and look forward to working together with you to provide your child with the best education possible. Do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone if you have any questions and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
The School DayThe school day starts at 7:40 a.m. when the first bell rings and your child is considered tardy if they are not in their assigned classroom at 7:45 a.m. when the second bell rings. School is dismissed at 2:45 p.m. every day excluding Wednesday. On Wednesday dismissal is at 11:45 a.m. Being on time and at school everyday is critical to your child's learning.

IDs / LanyardsIt is a school wide expectation that your child wear their ID at all times while at school. IDs are usually collected at the end of the day in my class with the exception of bus riders who need them to ride the bus.
Not having their ID will result in a markdown on their color bar in the agenda. Students who lose their IDs will need to replace them. The cost to replace them is $5. |
Agendas
It is a school-wide expectation that students in grades 3rd-8th have their agenda with them every day at school. Students are expected to write the objectives being covered, as well as the homework in each subject area in their agenda daily. Behavior at school can be tracked by the color bar in the agenda. Green means they had a good day at school. If their color has been changed from green there will be a note in the agenda explaining why. The agenda should assist your child in being responsible for their learning and behavior. Students are expected to get it signed, full signature, by a parent every night so please, if possible, make it a habit to do that. This would be a great time to have daily conversation with your child about what is happening at school. The agenda is also a great communication tool between parents and the teachers as I check my agendas daily and will see any notes you have written. If your child's agenda is not signed they will be marked down on their color bar. Additionally, if your child misplaces their agenda it will cost $5 to replace it.
